Medicare Part D Homepage
The
Medicare Modernization Act was passed on December 8, 2003. It
established a voluntary drug benefit for Medicare beneficiaries and
created a new Medicare Part D. Beginning on January 1, 2006, Medicare
beneficiaries will have the option to purchase a full prescription drug
benefit. This program is completely voluntary.
Pharmacists are the most accessible health care provider and are
often the first and only source of Medicare information for seniors and
disabled persons. CPhA is committed to bringing pharmacists the most
up-to-date information about Medicare Part D. This website will be
updated frequently with the most current information available.
Update:
Enrollment for the 2007
Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans and Medicare Advantage Plans
began November 15,
2006, and will continue through
December 31, 2006. The Centers
for Medicare and Medicaid advise that beneficiaries enroll in a plan
by December 8,
2006, to ensure that eligibility
information has been provided to the plans by January 1, 2007. Beneficiaries who are currently
enrolled in a plan are encouraged to review the many plans available, in
the event that their current plan has dramatically changed its drug
formulary, premiums or co-pays. Additionally, beneficiaries should review the 2007 drug plans
for any that may enable them to avoid the doughnut hole, or that provide
assistance during the doughnut hole period, such as the continuation of
generic drugs.
The California Pharmacists
Association will continue providing pharmacists and beneficiaries with
up-to-date information.
